How many kilometres do brake pads last?

Typically 30,000 to 70,000 km. Front pads wear faster, city driving shortens the interval, and the friction material and vehicle weight also affect service life.

Should brake discs be replaced with the pads?

Not always, but the rotor must be at or above minimum thickness with a smooth, flat surface. Machine or replace a scored, warped or thin rotor to protect the new pads and avoid vibration.

Why does the brake pedal feel soft after fitting new pads?

The caliper pistons were pushed back during fitting, so the pedal must be pumped several times to reseat the pads against the rotor. If it stays soft, bleed the system and check for fluid leaks.
